I served in the Army.

Tomas (Tom) G. Llanez passed away on March 25, 2018 at his residence after a lengthy illness surrounded by his family in Odessa, Texas. He was 79 years old.

The rosary will be held at 7pm on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Martinez Funeral Home in Odessa, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Fr. Frank Chavez officiating and Fr. Ryan Rojo, assisting officiator. Burial will follow at Odessa Garden II cemetery on south Muskingum in Odessa, Texas. Funeral arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home and Crematory.

Tomas (Tom) G. Llanez was born May 5, 1938 in Alpine, Texas. He married his wife of 58 years, Hortensia C. Llanez, on January 09, 1960 in Odessa, Texas. Tom served his country in the United States Army from July 1961 to 1967, where he served two years in active duty, two years in active reserve and two years in inactive reserves. He retired from the Texas Department of Transportation in 1996, where he worked for 25 years. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where he served as an usher. He loved playing baseball with the Dorados and loved watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys and NASCAR racing. Tom did not know any strangers and had many, many friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Candelaria Garcia, his father, Santos Llanez, his two brothers, Jesus Llanez and Mike Sanchez, his sister, Eufemia Rojo and his son-in-law, Kelly Parker.

He is survived by his wife, Hortensia, and his five children, Armando C. Llanez, Connie L. Ortiz and husband, Nicolas J. Ortiz, Brenda L. Parker, Daniel C. Llanez, all of Odessa, Texas and Ellen C. Llanez-Fragoso and husband, Leonel Fragoso, of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Nicky L. Ortiz, Priscilla Ortiz Saenz, Jacob L. Ortiz, and Jordan Dylan Parker, all of Odessa, Texas; one great grandchild, Matthew Rene Saenz, of Odessa, Texas. His brother Jose (Joe) Garcia (Teresa Garcia, wife) and countless nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers will be Benjamin Garcia, Nicky Ortiz, Jacob Ortiz, Jordan Parker, Raul Rojo, and Ralph Sanchez. Honorary pall bearer(s) will be Matthew Rene Saenz.

The Llanez, Parker, Ortiz, and Fragoso family would like to thank doctors, Abdul Kadir and Francisco Salcido, Medical Center hospital, and Home Hospice. We also want to thank all our friends, neighbors, and family for supporting us through prayer, kind words and gestures, cards, food and flowers.
