Arnulfo (Pupu) S. Cortez 87 of Marfa, passed away on Saturday February 17, 2018 at the VA Medical Center in Big Spring Tx.
Visitation will be held Tuesday February 20th, 2018 at Martinez Funeral Home from 9am to 9pm with a Rosary being recited at 7pm.
Mass will be Celebrated at 2pm Wednesday February 21st, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Frank Chavez officiating. Burial will be held at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, Texas on Thursday February 22nd 2018 at 11am. Arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home.
Arnulfo S. Cortez was born October 18, 1930 in Marfa, TX to Carlos L and Santos S Cortez. He attended school at Blackwell in Marfa where he later graduated. He worked as a welder for Sivalls and also worked for The City of Odessa. He served in The United States Army and was a veteran of The Korean War (POW & MIA). Arnulfo was awarded 2 Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and also a Bronze Medal.
Arnulfo is preceded in death by his parents Carlos and Santos Cortez, first wife Emma Cortez, second wife Gregoria Cortez, his two brothers Armando S Cortez (Cuate) of Odessa, TX and Abundio S Cortez of San Antonio, TX.
Arnulfo is survived by his sister Mercedes Carrillo and husband Juan of Alpine, TX., stepchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Carlos Cortez Sr, Cerjo Cortez, Conrad Cortez, Andrew Salazar, Jose Benjamin Delgado, Abe Fuentes, Sammy Salazar and Able Salazar.
Memorials may be given to the VA Medical Center Hospital in Big Spring, TX.
The family of Arnulfo wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at Big Spring VA and all involved in his care the past few years.
