On December 26, 2024, Arturo Lara Matta was unexpectedly called to return to the loving arms of our Lord to begin his rest in eternal peace.
Born on May 11, 1967 in Odessa, Texas to Paz and Rita Matta he was the baby of the family but what the family needed to feel complete.
Often times described as intimidating, he perfected what we as a family so lovingly termed “ The Matta look” but as soon as you approached him he would greet you with a mischievous grin. He was a complex character, sometimes sitting quietly in the background just taking everything in he also possessed a larger-than-life personality that would have anyone in tears from laughing so hard with his one-of-a-kind sense of humor and quick wit. He had such a lighthearted soul which without a doubt gave him the ability to make friends every where he went add in his loyalty and the willingness to help in any situation whether that was giving his last dollar or offering up one of his many skills as collateral, made him the perfect friend. Never one to sugarcoat things he always had a non-judgmental listening ear to lend and if it was advice you were seeking you could always expect his raw, unfiltered mostly blunt response.
Throughout the years he had a few hobbies, not only did he love to cook but he was extremely good at it to. Any time he warmed up the grill you knew you were in for a fantastic meal. Most will remember his love of low riders. With his artistic skills shining through his talent of hand painting pinstripes, custom paint jobs and love of working on cars he was able to become a part of another family in the low rider community. His love of cars didn’t just include the “low &slow” lifestyle he also loved Nascar! Whether he was watching at home or sitting at the track, Turo loved cars! He also loved the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys and Whataburger. If you could ask what he disliked, it was almost a guarantee he would say pants! It could be 35 and snowing outside and to everyone’s dismay he would be in shorts!
If there is one thing he would like to be remembered for and certainly the most important is the way he loved especially the love he had for his children and Grandchildren. It was steady, unwavering and will truly be everlasting.
As Arturo would say “ See you later Suckaaa”
