Benita Cortez

Benita Maria Cortez, 83, of Odessa passed away Monday, November 11, 2019 at her residence. She was born March 21,1936 in Ft. Stockton, Texas to Pedro and Maria

Gutierrez.

Benita Maria enjoyed cleaning her home and her house was immaculate. She also enjoyed knitting  and baking. She will always be remembered for her famous Carrot cake. While raising her children, she always emphasized the importance of God and education in their lives.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Locadio Cortez, and her daughter Gloria Cortez.

She is survived by her son, Larry Cortez and wife Adel, daughters Janie Maldonado and husband Manuel, Rita Perry and husband David, Maggie Cortez Carrasco and Elva Cortez, 17 grandchildren, Elaine Randolph, Matthew Sotelo, Angel Cortez, Augustine, Corina, Gracie, Alexandria and Victoria Maldonado, Jacob and Ivan Sandoval, Paul Mata, Joel III and Abby Carrasco, Eli Franco, Valerie, Jeremy and AJ Estrella and 41 Great -Great grandchildren whom she loved very much. Her older sister Lupe Velasquez, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, November 15, 2019 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at Ector County Cemetery in

Rosehill Section.  Arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home.   Pallbearers will be A.J. Estrella, Jeremy Estrella, Augustine Maldonado, Ivan Sandoval, Jacob Sandoval, and Matthew Sotelo.
