Birdia R. Hendley , 94 of Odessa passed away on February 10, 2015, in Odessa TX.

Visitation will be Friday February 13, 2015, at Martinez Funeral Home from 7PM to 9PM
Funeral services will be held Saturday February 14, 2015, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Donald A. Flinn, of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Garden in Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home.
Birdia R. Hendley was born in Crockett, Texas to William "H" Govan & Teresie King Govan on July 9, 1920. She went to school in Palestine, TX. She married Virgil C. Hendley on July 23, 1943 in Blackstone, Virginia. She graduated from Prairie View A & M University. She was an Educator with the Ector County Independent School District for over 35 years. She was a World War II veteran and served in the Army as a WAAC. She was a member of Odessa Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Birdia is preceded in death by her parents, husband Virgil C Hendley, daughter, Viola H Johnson and great granddaughter VaChari C Carpenter.
Birdia is survived by son William C Hendley. (Deborah) of Odessa; granddaughters Vanissa L Johnson of Bedford, TX and Raphaelle Canada (Larry) of Kyle, TX; grandsons, William C Hendley II, of Odessa and Bertrand Allen Jr. of Dallas, TX; great - grandchildren, Justin R Wilkins - Canada of Austin, TX, Chavani V Carpenter & Charles W Carpenter III of Bedford, TX and Xyonna R Hendley of Odessa; five great-great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
