Charlie Mae Laury was born on January 14, 1937 in Mexia, Texas to Oscar Phillips and Julia Mae Lee. Charlie Mae attended Douglas Elementary School and later attended Dunbar High School. Shortly after high school she married Richard Gamble and they moved to Odessa, Texas. She later re-married Floyd Laury Jr. They were the owners of Five-Point Bar-B-Que until Floyd's death in 1984. Later Charlie Mae went on to work for Odessa College for over fifteen years; while there she earned her GED and certification in Child Development. After Odessa College she spent the rest of her professional life working as a receptionist; and was employed by Ector County Senior Center at the time of her passing. Charlie Mae accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of St. James Baptist Church for many years. She leaves many loved ones to cherish her memory: her sister, Eula Faye Rand and Alice Lorene Johnson, Odessa, Tx.; two nieces, Jacqueline Rand and Yolanda Nyree Johnson, Odessa, Tx.; three nephews, James Rand Jr. of Irving, Tx., Danny Ray Davis of De Soto, Tx., and Steven Ray Johnson of Odessa, Tx.; one great-niece Dana Charlanease Mann, Odessa, Tx.; three great-nephews Orion Rashad Denmond, Jonathan Maurice Denmond (whom were in her care for over 15 years), Odessa, Tx. and Isaiah Jackson, Midland, Tx.; along with a host of family and friends.
