David H. Betancourt, 62, of Odessa, Tx passed away peacefully at home on March 12, 2025.
David was born in Odessa, Tx to Parents Jesus & Emma Betancourt on September 10, 1962. He worked from March 1, 1985, to June 30, 2005, as a Parks Equipment Operator in the Parks & Recreation Department of Odessa for 20 Years.
He was a beloved son, father, brother, uncle, grandpa, and friend.
He was awarded for best exterior at the “ Taste of Latin Car Club” center for his 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix lowrider car in 1979. He enjoyed cruising in his car and washing it when he was younger before it got wrecked.
He was a devoted customer to Whataburger for many years and ordered his favorite drink (A large sweet tea with extra ice) up two times a day. He never missed eating Tacos from Rosas Cafe on Taco Tuesdays. After his niece, Susie gave him “one sip” of her iced Matcha latte from Starbucks, it became his favorite drink and loved it with extra whipped cream! He loved eating both of his sister’s cooking, Like Edna’s homemade beans and salads and Debra’s enchiladas and ribs! And all the other foods they would both make during the holidays and during family gatherings. He especially looked forward to Thanksgiving day because his sister Debra would make a whole feast with his favorite foods.
David enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys play, wrestling, scary movies, and Nickelodeon with SpongeBob being his favorite show to watch.
He always looked forward in seeing his two great nieces after school who he called “Sereny aka Punky Brewster (Serenity)” and his Mija “Koey, (Khloe). He always enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and his Cat named “James” who he loved so much and always kept him company. He cherished his visits from his nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces when they would all visit him because it made the noise in the house sound so beautiful that he could fall asleep peacefully. He had a very special bond that blossomed uniquely with his two great nephews who he called Mijo “Anthony” & Mijo “Jesse Jr” that was unbreakable.
David is preceded in death by: Brother: Alvaro Betancourt, Father: Jesus Betancourt, Brother: Richard Betancourt, Daughter: Amanda Betancourt, and Mother: Emma Betancourt.
David is survived by: Brother: Jesse Betancourt (Donna), Sister: Edna Gaytan (Anibal), Sister: Debra Cervantes, Grandchildren: Juanito Carrasco Jr, Promise J’ Lee Mancillas, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 5 PM to 9 PM at Martinez Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at Martinez Funeral Home on Monday, March 17, 2025, from 10 AM to 9 PM with a Rosary at 7 PM. Mass is set for 10 AM Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Carlos Rodriguez officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jesus Ortiz, Alan Armesto, Damian Gaytan, Anibal Gaytan Jr, Richard Betancourt Jr & Layne Perkins.
His memory will remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed by all those that knew and loved him.
The family of David wishes to extend their sincere thanks to MCH hospital & staff, CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Medical Center- Longview Tx, Dr. Reddy, Dr. Nargunan, Dr. Godey, Hospice of Odessa and to the family that contributed to his care, his sisters Debra & Edna, his great nephew his Mijo “Jesse Jr”. & very special thanks from the family goes out to his niece who he called his Mija “Crystal Lara” for going above and beyond in taking such good care of David in his continued care and all his medical needs.
