Denois Christian (Tenchi), 64 of Odessa, TX passed away on Monday April 27, 2015 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas.
He was born on July 5, 1950 to Vernice Christian and James Otis Mayes in Colorado City, Texas.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in Loraine, Texas. After moving to Odessa in 1960, the family united with Rose of Sharon Baptist Church. He attended ECISD public School and graduated from Ector High School in 1968. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1969 and served our Country with Honor and Dignity. Denois enjoyed all sports but had a love for Softball, which he played many years until the age of 40. Denois also enjoyed golf and tested his skills against the late Pastor J.W. Hanson. He had an untiring love for his family, Church and friends.
Denois was Ordained as a Deacon under the Pastorage of the later Rev. J.W. Hanson in 2002, after having served in many leadership roles as a member of the Church.
He was employed by Atlantic Richfield-Arco Oil and Gas- BP America and retired due to illness in 2008 after 33 years of service.
He is preceded in death by his mother Vernice Christian; father, James Otis Mayes; one sister, Mary Helen Mayes; Grandparents; Frank and Josephine Christian, Booker and Anner Mayes; Uncle Hodges Mayes; Aunt Bennie Starling.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Dorothy Jones Christian of Odessa; Sons: Dominique Christian of Lewisville, Texas, Brandon Mathis of Odessa, Texas; Daughter; Jocelyn Mathis of Odessa, Texas; Four Brothers; James Otis Christian of Denver, Colorado, James Lee Mayes and Willie T. Mayes of Colorado City, Texas, James Otis Mayes Jr. of Farmington, New Mexico; Six Sisters: Patricia Christian- Shields of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jonell Mayes, Charlene McAdams, and Mary Ellen Mayes all of Colorado City, Texas, Beverly Wright (John) of Midland, Texas and Gidget Mayes of Farmington, New Mexico. Nine Uncles; Fred, Charles, Chester, Alvin, Ivory, Curtis, Lawrence, and Kenneth Christian, and Wendell Mayes. Nine Aunts; Lucille Warren, Barbara Armstrong, Willie Mae Haynes, Frankie Mae Davis, Rosie Lee Hubbard, Betty Mayes, Ellie Faye Moore, Lula Fleetwood, and Dorothy Steadham.
Three Grandchildren: Jalah Nealy and Jordyn Mathis of Odessa and Jianna Mathis of El Paso, Texas and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday May 2, 2015 from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM at Martinez Funeral Home. Also on Sunday May 3, 2015 from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a wake to be held at 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday May 4, 2015 at First Baptist Church 7th and Lee at 1:00 Pm with Rev. Donald Flinn Officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Ector County Cemetery Peaceful Garden Sec.
