Donald Hipps

April 10, 1942 — January 17, 2015

Don Hipps, 72, of Midland passed away January 17, 2015 in Odessa, TX.
Don Hipps was born April 10, 1942 in Midland to Lou Spinks and Harrell Hipps. He has lived a good life but as a believer he knew the best is yet to come as he is now with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Funeral Services will be held at Midland Bible Church, 5900 Whitman Drive at 2:00 P.M, Wednesday
January 21,2015 with Pastor Mark Rae officiating. There will be no graveside services. Arrangements are under the care of Martinez Funeral Home.
Don worked for his father, a house builder from the time he could hold a hammer. His real love was working on cars and had a natural ability in this area. He was always available to help friends with their cars and as a result received lots of experience. With his quick smile and great sense of humor he made friends easily. Don loved people and often said he wished to be remembered as a good friend to others.
He met Olivia Inman in the summer of 1958 and in January 17, 1959 they eloped in Acuna, Mexico. After the parents found out they decided that the "kids" should be married in the US, a month later in the home of Don's parents the couple exchanged wedding vows.
Don worked for his father as a pawn broker a while later went to work for El Paso Products. He was a mechanical draftsman for Ortloff Engineers and later a partner in the company, Process Modules. He worked for Southwestern Bell Co., leasing cars and performing vehicle maintenance on the company trucks.
He enjoyed snow skiing more than any other sport and went as often as time would allow. He had skied from California to Canada and most of the areas in between those.
He leaves behind his wife Olivia, two children: Tammy K. Dopp of Lubbock, TX, D. Todd Hipps of Midland, Sister: Phyllis Zeteman of Fl. Three grandchildren: Tifancy and Scott Painter of Lubbock, Caleb Dopp and fiancée Lauren Williams of Odessa, Jarib Dopp and Veronica of Lubbock. Six great grandchildren: Tanner Michael of Topeka, KS, Tayler and Kaitlyn of Lubbock, Caden of Odessa, Zoey of Austin, Elijah of Lubbock and various nephews and nieces and cousins.
The Hipps family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to: Dr. Reddy, Dr. Dare, Dr. McLarey, nurses: Carol, Michelle and Sondra.
