EDDIE JONES’ OBITUARY

Eddie D. Jones was born April 23, 1948 in Crane, Texas to the parents of Otto Jones and Jessie Mae (Johnson) Jones. He was an outstanding basketball star and an all-around athlete at  Bethune High in Cane, Texas. He accepted Christ at a young age and did not stop there.

A Memorial will be held on Thursday January 28,2021 at 10:00 AM at St. James Baptist Church

Forty-eight years ago, Eddie made a trip to Odessa, Texas and he did not know his life would be changed forever. He met and married Claudette Washington, and they had two daughters. He joined St. James Baptist Church where Rev. Walter Raleigh Ockletree was his pastor. He became active in the ministry by serving on the usher board, brotherhood, trustee, an original member of the men’s chorus, the sanctuary choir and a Sunday school teacher. Eddie enjoyed making people laugh.

He was called home by God on January 20, 2021 at 6:36 p.m. He is preceded in death by his parents Otto and Jessie Mae Jones; sisters: Mary Ellen Douglas and Mary Jones and nephew: Coury Joseph.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife: Claudette Washington Jones; daughters: Dessirie Berry of Odessa, TX and Donelle Harris (Jerry) of Nashville, TN; son: Cedric Harris of Dallas, TX; grandchildren: Deontrae Jones (Odessa, TX), Ronjanae DeGray (Houston, TX), Raeyana DeGray (Little Rock, AR; Robert Thomas (Arlington, TX), Daviontie (Mexia, TX); 2 great grandchildren: Jamiere and Jada (Odessa, TX); one brother: Roy Jones (West Minister, CA); 2 sisters-in-law: Cheryl Jordan (David) of Houston, TX and Paula Wilburn of Odessa, TX and a host of relatives,  friends and acquaintances.
