Erma Jo Beckwith Stewart, 90, of Odessa, died Monday, July 1, 2013. She was with her daughter in Meridian, MS at the time of her passing. Mrs. Stewart was the daughter of Henry and Ethel Richardson Beckwith of Cotulla, TX.
She later moved to San Antonio, TX and stayed there until she received her high school diploma. She later attended and graduated from MeHarry Medical College, School of Nursing in Nashville, TN, with an R.N. degree. After moving to Odessa from Greenville, TX, Mrs. Stewart became an active and instrumental member of the Business Womens Club. She also was one of the founders of the Phyllis Wheatley Day Care Center.
Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Dr. Wheatley C. Stewart. Together they served the medical needs of the citizens of Odessa from 1948 until 1998.
She is survived by one daughter, Ethel Stewart Beasley, MD of Meridian, MS and one son, Luther Henry Stewart, MD Genevieve of Baton Rouge, LA she has 5 grandchildren and 14 greatgrandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 5, 2013 from 9 AM 9 PM at MartinezSmith Funeral Chapels. Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 11 AM at Carter Chapel C.M.E. Church with Minister Gene Collins officiating. Interment will be held Monday, July 8, 2013 at 11 AM at the Rose Hill section of the Ector County Cemetery.
