Fletcher Phillips

October 6, 1927 — May 12, 2016

Fletcher Lee Phillips was born October 6th, 1927 in Canton, Mississippi to the parentage of Mr. Leutinant Phillips and Mrs. Saritha (Fisher) Phillips; the only child born to this union. Fletcher Lee became fatherless at an early age at which time he began his life with his paternal grandparents. His education was through hard work; plowing the fields, chopping wood, hunting, fishing and raising livestock. Later he ventured away from farm life and from Mississippi to Tennessee; when an opportunity to go to California arose he came west; Texas is as far as he got. After living in a few Texas cities, Odessa was where he met and married Lyla Mae Keeton and became a step-father to her beautiful daughter, Dorothy Ann, after which two other children were born: Donald Ray and Lovie Diane who will later become known as "the 3 D's", Dot, Don and Diane. Fletcher Lee attended Sharpburg AME Zion Methodist Church as a child but as an adult he switched his membership to Mt. Olive Baptist Church here in Odessa, Texas where he attended until his health declined. The Angel of Silence entered his life on May 12th, 2016 at 8:10pm. Preceding him of his immediate family in death was his ex-wife, Layla M. Keeton, Dorothy (step daughter), Narayan Burks: grandson. He leaves behind son, Donald Ray Phillips and wife Theresa of DeSoto, TX; daughter, Lovie Diane Haynes and husband Elton of Odessa, TX; six grandchildren, a number of great grands as well as a great-great grand, step-brother Otha Lacy of Milwaukee, WI; step-sister Thelma Craft of Milwaukee, WI and a host of cousins and friends. During his lifetime he just enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening & taking naps, but most of all he liked Bar-B-Qing and relaxing with a cold drink!
