Freddie Earl Stricklin was born in Marlin, Texas on May 26, 1950 to Laura Bartlett and Collin Stricklin. Freddie attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School in Marlin, Texas and moved to Midland, Texas where he graduated from Carver High School in 1968. Freddie loved all sports but his favorite was track. He competed in the 800, mile and mile relay in high school and college. He spent many days either running great distances, watching sports on T.V. or arguing with his boys and others about sports. Freddie received a track scholarship to Lubbock Christian College and graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education. He began his teaching career in Lamesa, Texas where he taught Texas History and coached. In 1973, Freddie married Darlene Warren and to this union 5 children were born. In 1977 he moved to Midland, Texas and taught and coached at Goddard Jr. High School and later Chilton High School in Chilton, Texas. Left to cherish his memories are his former wife, Darlene Thomas and their children: Freddie E. Stricklin Jr.(Amy) Warren Stricklin, Jamaal Stricklin(Tyrisha), Laurance Stricklin(Michallyna), Kiara Stricklin – all from Odessa, TX and his youngest daughter, Jakayeviah Porter – Midland, TX, and 18 grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 brothers: George Stricklin of Marlin, Texas and Billy Stricklin of Tulsa, Oklahoma and 2 sisters: Bertha Franklin and Jewel Stricklin. Freddie was preceded in death by his mother, father, 8 sisters and 6 brothers. 4 of his sisters whom he spoke about often and loved dearly: Mae Helen Smith, Vivian Benton, Edna Marion Poole and Carolyn Price.
