Garry Dewayne Lewis, Sr. was born April 23, 1958, in Odessa, TX, to the parentage of the late Mr. Sammy L. Lewis, Sr. and Mrs. Fannie Mae Lewis. Garry departed this life on February 28, 2022, in Grand Prairie, TX.
Garry received Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church in Odessa, TX.
Garry attended Ector County I.S.D. schools, graduating from Ector High School in 1976. At Ector, he was an outstanding basketball player who was a member of the State Championship Basketball team in 1976. He was adored by his classmates and teachers. Many will remember Garry’s infectious laughter. He was always the hype man for everyone he came in contact with.
Garry was employed by the Ector County Sheriff Department for 18 years.
Garry was preceded in death by his parents, Sammy L. Lewis (Sr.) and Fannie Mae Lewis and his sister, Marilyn Jean Lewis and his brother, Arthur Randall Lewis.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Children: his son Garry D. Lewis, Jr. (Maria), of San Antonio, TX; his daughter Shanevelyn (Tweet) Dixon, of Odessa, TX; his son Eligius Jameson, of New York, NY; and his baby daughter Nylah Lewis, of Mansfield, TX; Grandchildren: Hope Lewis, Faith Lewis, and William Jayvon Lewis, all of San Antonio, TX; Jermasia Dixon, Jamie Dixon, and Janeshia Dixon, all of Odessa, TX; Great Grandchildren: Janylah and Jaliyah; Brothers: Jimmy L. Lewis, of Missouri City, TX., Charles E. Lewis Sr., Grand Prairie, TX., Sammy L. Lewis, Jr. (Doris), Ivan Ray Lewis (JoAnn), both of Odessa, TX, Tony D. Lewis (Peggy), of Grandfield, OK, Eric W. Lewis (Denise), of Midland, TX., and Anthony Alexander, of Houston, TX; Sisters: Tammy Alexander of Round Rock, TX, and Pam Alexander of Odessa, TX, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
