Geroge Watson Jr.

George Marvin "Skipper" Watson, Jr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by his brother Bobby and his sister-in-law Suzanne, on June 9, 2018 after a courageous 3 year battle with leukemia. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Dorothy Waugh Watson and George Marvin Watson, Sr. He graduated from Alamo Heights High School and University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Architecture. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
After a successful career in Houston as an architect and art dealer, Marvin moved near the foot of Dolores Mountain in Ft. Davis where he was surrounded by a vineyard, lots of animals and many wonderful friends for almost 40 years.
Marvin had a deep love for art, history and entertaining and his friends delighted in his culinary skills and lively conversations.
Marvin designed many exquisite homes in the Ft. Davis area and he was especially proud to design the McIvor Conservation Center and the Chihuahua Desert Research Institute Visitor Center.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Billy. He leaves behind his brother Bobby (Suzanne) Watson, sister-in-law Sally Watson, nieces Lara (Brian) Thompson, Tracey (Van) Beckwith, Christina (Kevin) Helmich, Scotti (Buddy) Smith, Carey (Dave) Hildebrand, Michelle (Aaron) Alley and Audra Beck. He also is survived by his nephew Robert (Lacey) Watson, Jr., 17 great nieces and nephews and 1 great great nephew.
A memorial service in celebration of Marvin's life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 7th at the McIvor Conservation Center in Ft. Davis. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Food Pantry of Jeff Davis County or another charity of your choice.
