Gustavo Ayala Tijerina Jr., age 66, of San Angelo, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2017 in San Angelo.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Martinez Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2017 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2017 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, Texas.
Gustavo was born in Odessa, Texas to Gustavo Delgado Tijerina Sr. and Herlinda Ayala on February 5, 1951. He attended school in Odessa. He joined the United States Army when he was 18 years old where he served for two terms and in the Vietnam War. Gustavo received several medals and badges such as the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Parachutist Badge; Army Commendation Medal; Purple Heart Medal; etc. He married Donna M. Tijerina in Washington in April of 1992.
Gustavo is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Alex Tijerina and Mike Ramirez.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife Donna M. Tijerina, sons Gustavo Tijerina III and Christopher Gomez; daughters Elizabeth Tijerina, Letetia Patin, Natasha Shorts, and Amanda Shorts; brothers Ramon Bustos, Robert Tijerina, Temo Tijerina, and Johnny Tijerina, and sisters Germinia Tijerina, Macaria Tijerina, Angelita Reyes, Gracie Guerrero, and Veronica Tijerina and numerous grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Gustavo Tijerina III, Christopher Ray Gomez, Robert Bustos, Benjamin Morales, T.J. Tijerina, Orlando Hernandez, Rudy Aguilar, Tito Tijerina
