James Patrick Allen

April 11, 1975 — December 6, 2024

James Patrick Allen, age 49, passed away on December 6, 2024, after a brave second battle with cancer. He left this world far too soon, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Born on April 11, 1975, in Odessa, TX, James was the son of Roosevelt Allen Jr. and Vera Reed.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Estella Crawford, his mother Vera Reed, his maternal uncle Michael Reed, his paternal grandfather Roosevelt Allen Sr., his paternal aunt Lisa Allen, and his grandson A’Jayveion Allen.

James Patrick leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and memories, cherished by his father, Roosevelt Allen Jr. and his lifelong partner Yolanda; his bonus mother Alice Arnold; a special aunt Sharon Pride; and grandmother Doris Allen. He is also survived by six sisters: Kimberly Perez, LaToya Lincoln, Shauna Miller, Carmen Jackson (Adrian), Renee Allen, and Ashley Allen; one brother, Jaffrey Allen; eight sons: Ja’Kari Allen, Jordan Allen, Patrick Allen Jr., Trevon Gainey (Rissa), Savoyrion Allen, JacQuez Price, Kortez Allen, and A’Jon Allen; five daughters: Akasia White (Kendall), Tyneese Allen, Kamya Allen, Amyra Allen, and Jayla Allen; twenty-two grandchildren: Brisa Cortez, Andre Allen, Baylee Allen, Jakari Allen Jr., Jameson White, Cameryn Allen, Indiya Allen, Kali Sims, Jy’aire Allen, Genesis Gainey, Jude Gainey, Isaiah Gainey, Kayden Tapia, Kalaya Jones, Savoyrion Allen Jr., Ma’ssiah Hernandez, Kayson Allen, Jeremiah Allen, Alaysia Allen, Kairo James, Phenix Price, and Rayn Price, along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

James Patrick graduated from Permian High School in 1994. A natural at cutting hair, he began practicing his craft outside his grandmother Estelle’s house. His high school friends, neighborhood kids, and family would eagerly line up to enjoy his art. Patrick later attended Dallas Barber & Stylist College, where he became a licensed barber. He went on to own his own barbershop, HeadQuarters “That Makes Cents”, in Richardson, TX, before ultimately returning to Odessa and working at Spades Barber Shop.

Known for his nickname “Stay Ready” (Stay Ready to Keep from Getting Ready), Patrick was always impeccably groomed and ready for anything. With his fresh twist of long dreadlocks and classic, clean style, complemented by a hat, gold necklace, watch, and sunglasses, he always looked the part.

Music and dancing were also deep passions for him. Patrick participated in dance contests around the community, winning big prizes, and he passed on his love for music to his children, teaching them to dance and sing to the latest R&B hits. He always made sure they at least bobbed their heads to any music he played.

A proud father, he often introduced his children with great pride, saying, “These are my beautiful daughters” or “These are my handsome sons.” His humor and lightheartedness filled any room with laughter, and his white Cadillac, “Pearly White,” brought him joy. When he wasn’t cutting hair or visiting loved ones, he could often be found in Pearly White, joyfully listening to music.

James Patrick Allen’s “Stay Ready” journey on earth may have ended, but his love for music, dancing, his jokes, and his infectious laughter will resonate in the hearts of those who loved him for generations to come.
