Funeral Service will be held at 10am Friday, June 16, 2017 at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel with Ordained Minister Sylvia Villanueva officiating. Burial will follow at Ector County Cemetery in Odessa Garden II.
Jerome Luera was born in Lynwood, California on August 1, 1970 to Efren and Manuela Luera. He went to school in California and Texas. He never married but broke many hearts. Jerome traveled and toured and loved music.
Jerome toured and played with many famous musicians in various genres in addition to fronting his own groups comprised of his family members and friends. He commanded the respect and admiration of so many people not just from the high level of his talent but by simply being genuine. And even though much of his musical work survives in the form of recordings, it is only a small part of the work he had left to do. He was a fountain of ideas and even those of us who knew him best could never have a complete understanding of
the depth of his artistry. We're just thankful we got to glimpse it from time to time.
Jerome is preceded in death by maternal grandmother Esperanza Franco, uncle Manuel Navarette, and brother Jose Luis Luera.
Jerome is survived by parents Efren Luera and Manuela N. Luera; brothers Emilio (Diane) Luera, Roy (Linda) Luera, Efren Luera Jr. all of Odessa, Gilbert (Teresa) Luera of Midland; sisters Sylvia (Richard) Villanueva of Riverside, California, Anna (Ricardo) Hignojos of Odessa, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Richard Hignojos, Gilbert Casares, Ryan Casares, Sam Rodriguez, Pete Rodriguez, Ruben Segura and Richard Villanueva.
