Joel Ruiz

Joel Ruiz, 56, of Odessa passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2020 in Odessa, Texas.

Visitation for Joel Ruiz will be held at Martinez Funeral Home Inside Chapel on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM.  Funeral service is to take place on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Martinez Funeral Home Inside Chapel at 1:00 PM with burial to follow at Ector County Cemetery Odessa II Section.

Joel was born in Cuauhtemoc, Chichuahua, Mexico to Maria Elena Cera Mendez on July 4, 1963.  He married Hilda Olivas Ruiz on May 22, 1996 in Odessa, Texas.  He worked as a sandblaster/painter for 28 years.

Joel was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Elena Cera Mendez; his grandmother, Virginia Mendez; his father-in-law, Jose Olivas; and his niece, Imelda Mendez.

He is survived by his loving spouse, Hilda Olivas Ruiz; two sons, Joel Ruiz, Jr., and Jose Angel Ruiz; three daughters, Monica Ramirez, Dahlia Elena Ruiz (David Oropeza), Marisela Ruiz; five brothers, Manuel Ruiz, Sigifredo Mendez, Alfredo Beltran-Ruiz, Javier Mendez, Jaime Mendez; three sisters, Ivonne Marione, Norma Jurado, Sylvia Ruiz; grandsons, Isaiah Devin De La Torre, Juan (Bebe) De La Torre, Jacob Edward De La Torre, Isaac De La Torre, Damian Modesto Oropeza; granddaughter, Destinee Oropeza; mother-in-law, Maria Elena Olivas; sister-in-laws Elizabeth “Lisi” Mendez, Lori Olivas, Vera Contreras; brother-in-law, Samuel Olivas; niece, Brandi Mendez; uncles, Elias Mendez, Hector Mendez; many loved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Ivan Zammaron, Alfredo Beltran Ruiz, Javier Mendez, David Oropeza, Armando Oropeza, Abraham Lujan, Pilar Contreras Jr., Rey Borunda.
