Joseph Jernigan

Joseph "The Kid" Jernigan, 84, of Odessa passed away on Friday April 21, 2017 in Odessa, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday April 27, 2017 at Martinez Funeral Home with family to greet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday April 28, 2017 at Bethlehelm Baptist Church with Pastor Darren Willis officiating. Burial will follow at Ector County Cemetery in the Odessa II section.

Joseph Jernigan was born in Carthage, Texas to Mack and Leona Jernigan on June 06, 1932. He served in the Army. He received an honorable discharge. Co. R 1st Battle Group 10th infantry. He also received the Army Occupation Medal (Germany) National Defense Service Medal Sharpshooter (Carbines).

Joseph is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Jobie Jernigan and Sonny Jernigan.

Left to cherish his memory include his daughters Michelle Curry wife to Stephen D. Curry Sr. and Criselda Nabarrette; son Joseph Mack Jernigan husband to Diedre Jernigan and sisters Fannie Mae Jernigan and Louise Blacknall. He is also survived by his grandchildren Tiana Elice Jernigan, Joseph M. Jernigan Jr., Stephen D. Curry Jr.,Joshua A. Nabarrette, Luis E. Nabarrette, Timothy A. Nabarrette and Jonah R. Nabarrette; great-granddaughters Yamira J. Nabarrette, Ya'naida V. Nabarrette and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family of Joseph Jernigan wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Pankaj Khandelwal M.D. and Dr. Joseph Kaczor M.D., as well as the staff of Texas Oncology Odessa West Texas Cancer Center and the staff and doctors at Star Hospice, Visiting Angels and the VA Hospital.
