Kim Dwayne Wilburn, age 62, of Odessa, went to be with the Lord on April 9, 2019 after a battle with a lengthy illness. Kim was born November 22, 1956 in Odessa, Texas to parents, Cora Scott and James Higgins. He attended Odessa Public Schools and graduated from Ector High School in 1974.
In 1978 Kim married Paula Washington. To this union, Ja'Quay Dwayne Wilburn was born. Kim was employed by the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. Later he became employed by the Ector County Independent School District. He worked as a custodian at Hood Jr. High and San Jacinto Elementary for approximately 31 years and retired.
Kim later decided to give his life to the Lord. He became a member of the Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late Rev. J. W. Hanson. He served faithfully until his health failed. As a member, he served as a drummer. He was a talented musician. For his hobby, he often played in a band or served as a disc jockey. Kim enjoyed being around people and making them laugh. He always had a warm smile, filled with charisma and a joke or two in his pocket. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Kim is preceded in death by his father, James Higgins and grandparents, Melvin Wilburn and Henrietta Hatcher.
Kim leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Cora Scott; son, Ja'Quay Wilbum (Anessia) and daughter, Kaneesuh Johnson; grandchildren, Jaidyn, Grayson, Maisyn, Maze, and Milez Wilburn.
He is also survived by his sister, Sandra Wilburn; brother, Lee Wilburn and a host of relatives and friends.
