Lucille Hammond

November 14, 1934 — October 13, 2016

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Walter Hunter officiating.

Lucille was born in Marlin, Texas to the parentage of Frank Rogers and Jessie Lee Washington Rogers on November 14, 1934. She received her formal education from B.T. Washington High School in Marlin, Texas. She received Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Marlin Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend E.C. Jackson. After moving to Odessa, she united with the Rose of Sharon Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend A.H. Goings, where she was an usher and deaconess. Lucille met and married A.J. Hammond in 1953 in Marlin, Texas. They moved to Odessa, Texas in 1957. To this union, three children were born: Donnie, Connie, and Mary. She loved to read, her church, children, husband, and grandchildren. Lucille was a former employee of Medical Center Hospital where she worked for 12 years.

She made her final transition from this earth life into eternal rest on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at her residence.

She is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Jessie Rogers; son Donnie; daughters Connie and Mary; great-grandson Adam Marshall Jr.; three sisters and three brothers.

Left to cherish her memory include her loving husband A.J. Hammond; stepchildren Rose Hammond of Odessa, Texas, Katherine Johnson of Marlin, Texas and Dwayne (Debra) Brodaus of Bryan, Texas; sister Jean Thompson of Los Angeles, California; brothers Roy Rogers and D.L. Rogers of Los Angeles, California. Grandchildren ; Chaviya Hammond, Jhametrick (Vannie ) Hammond, Sheniqua (Jerry) Thomas, Katrina (Adam) Hammond, D'Marcus Morrison, Tony Allen, and Gloria Allen all of Odessa, Texas; 30 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
