Maria, ama, mommy, buela, buelita, sister, aunt, niece and friend, was to us more than words can begin to express.
Her loving heart was always there to aid those in need. She was gentle and loving, but most importantly a strong spiritual woman.
Maria was a woman of deep faith and conviction, she held fast to the ways of the Bible and led her family to Christ.
She was a Eucharistic minister and Crusillista at St. Martin's Catholic Church. She guided us all in our faith and united us, our family, in prayer.
She was our family's rock. She possessed the capability of making each member of the family feel like they were the most unique and
special member , but that was only because she understood that all love comes from above. Through knowing Jesus, she freely accepted each
flaw within us. She too was a potter in life, she took her time molding us with love, sanding our edges with prayer and polishing us off with her
tears.
During celebration, or hardship she was the first one on her knees, leading by example she showed us the power of prayer.
Her laugh was contagious. She loved to play practical games, bingo and gamble. She would greet you with a hug, a stern look, a love bite or a pinch.
Maria also had a love for pets. Her 4 dogs: Chiquita, La Negra, La Flaca and Ashley; as well as her cat, El Guero, were her "other children."
She was the daughter of Francisco and Cruz Valenzuela. She was born on April 9th, 1928 in La Cenda, Presido, TX. Maria was the youngest of
11 children.
She is preceded in death by husbands, Francisco Sotelo and Juan Catano; parents, Francisco and Cruz Valenzuela; siblings: Francisco Valenzuela,
Delfin Valenzuela, Dolores Valenzuela, Guadalupe Valenzuela, Simon Valenzuela, Benita Carrasco, Mariana Flores, Mariano Valenzuela, Celso Sosa;
children, Samuel Sotelo and Ruben Catano.
She is survived by one brother, Maximo Valenzuela; children Guadalupe Sotelo, Francisco Sotelo and wife, Maria Elena Sotelo, Maria Irene Levario and
husband, Freddie Levario, Herman Sotelo and wife, Teresa Sotelo, Cecilia Rodriguez and husband, George Rodriguez, and Juan Catano Jr.,
wife Sandra Catano; 100 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.
She spent her final days surrounded by her family in her Odessa home. We, the Sotelo-Catano-Levario-Rodgriguez family would like to thank you all
for the outpouring of love and prayers during this trying time. We ask that you continue to pray for us as we lay our sweet Maria to rest.
A special thanks to Dr. Sing Uy and Anita Uy, long time loving friends and physician as well as Home Hospice for your healing hands.
Pallbearers include: Fred Levario, Juan Sotelo, Michael Rodriguez, Herman Sotelo Jr., Randy Catano, Juan Catano III, Matthew Sotelo, James Levario,
