Maria “Christy” Rodriguez, 91, of Odessa, passed away on March 22, 2022, in Odessa, TX.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 26th from 1PM-9PM and Sunday, March 27th from 1PM-9PM. A rosary will take place on Sunday, March 27th at 7PM at Martinez Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10AM on Monday, March 28th, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Mark Woodruff of St. Joseph, officiating. Burial will follow at Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home.

Maria was born in La Tinaja, San Diego de la Union, Guanajato, Mex. to Feliciano Torres and Rebecca Segura on February 22, 1931. She came to the United States at a very young age. She married Lino Rodriguez on April 24, 1959, in Odessa, TX. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to her family. Maria lost her only biological child at her birth, but had stepdaughters, adoptive children and grandchildren who were blessed to call her “Mom” and “Grandma”. Maria raised her 3 stepdaughters, Emma, Mary and Alice, adopted 2 grandchildren, Billy and Lisa, and a niece, Laura. Her love and care was never-ending and she continued to help raise multiple grandchildren. Amazing how so much love and such a big heart fit in such a little body. After the death of her husband, Lino, Maria met her long-time partner, Leobardo Suchil. Together, they shared years of love and memories until his death in 1996. She was a strong woman, and despite having a limited education, she was able to pass along so many life teachings to her family. Maria was a life-long, devoted Catholic and member of the St. Joseph Catholic Parish. We will always remember her laugh and her love for life. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, taking trips, music and dancing. If you ever saw her “out and about”, she almost always had on her red “lipistick” and her make-up. Red was her favorite color, and she was always wanting to keep up with the “style”. Christmas time was her favorite time of year, and you could always count on “Christy Christmas” to have her house decorated for the season.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Feliciano and Rebecca, her siblings Tito, Eliseo, Lencho, Jose and Jesus, her husband, Lino, her partner, Leo, daughter, Guadalupe, stepdaughter, Emma (Frank) and grandchild, Johnny Sauceda.

Maria touched the lives of so many. Among those left behind to cherish her memory are her children: Billy Rodriguez, Lisa Marie Rodriguez and Laura Torres (Alfredo); Stepdaughters: Mary Muniz, Alice Marquez (Vicente); Sister: Concepcion Avilez; Grandchildren: Lupe Madrid (David), Lena Lopez, Candace Mora (Kandace), Dana Orona (Vito), Christopher Rodarte, Julianna Reyes, and Delores Reyes; and many other grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family of Maria would like to extend our sincere thanks to all family and friends, Buena Vida Nursing and Rehab, Interim Hospice, and all doctors, nurses and staff that helped care for her.
