Merita was a loyal and loving wife to Carlos Martinez Carrasco, since the day she said, "I do" on March 17, 1951 in Balmorhea, Texas. During these 66 years of marriage, Merita was a supportive and nurturing mother to 5 amazing children; an incredible ‘Nana' to her 9 grandchildren; and a blessing to her 11 great-grandchildren.

Merita was a long-time member at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, very involved in many different organizations including being a Eucharistic Minister, the Carmelites, a member of the Catholic Women's Organization, a CCD teacher, a spiritual supporter to all those who crossed her path, and an encouraging mother figure to everyone whom she loved.

Merita is preceded in death by her parents, Luisa & Juan Chavez; her brother, Ruben Chavez; her sisters Mercedes Baeza & Rafaela Lopez; her daughter Velma Carrasco-Hill; her grandson Carlos Carrasco; her great-granddaughter Sadie; and her grandson Terry Joe.

Merita is survived by her husband, Carlos Carrasco. Her daughter Olga & spouse Ruben Matta, her daughter Wilma & spouse Rudy Hinojos, her son Johnny & spouse MaryAnn Carrasco, and her son Manuel & spouse Hollie Carrasco. Her grandchildren Kim & spouse Jesse Ramirez, Mark & spouse Amy Matta, Melissa & spouse John Zenger, Michelle & spouse Hughie Gray, Maj. Sarah Carrasco, Haley Carrasco & Jared Carrasco. She is also survived by her multiple, wonderful great-grandchildren.

Merita was a loving, strong, supportive and bold-"told you how it was" kind of woman. She will be deeply missed for her unique character and God loving personality that she instilled in anyone who was around her.
