Mary (Merita) Dulces Nombres de Chavez Carrasco has moved on to be with her Lord and Savior, Sunday October 22, 2017.
Visitation will be held 9:00 am to 9:00 pm Tuesday, October 24, 2017 with a Rosary at 7pm at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Anthony Bala officiating. Burial will follow at Ector County in Los Angeles Garden. Arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home.
Merita was born September 25, 1936 to Luisa & Juan Chavez in Candelaria, Texas. She was the eldest sister of 11 siblings; 7 brothers and 4 sisters. She was also the "Mi Tia Merita" to multiple and beloved nieces and nephews.
Merita was a loyal and loving wife to Carlos Martinez Carrasco, since the day she said, "I do" on March 17, 1951 in Balmorhea, Texas. During these 66 years of marriage, Merita was a supportive and nurturing mother to 5 amazing children; an incredible ‘Nana' to her 9 grandchildren; and a blessing to her 11 great-grandchildren.
Merita was a long-time member at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, very involved in many different organizations including being a Eucharistic Minister, the Carmelites, a member of the Catholic Women's Organization, a CCD teacher, a spiritual supporter to all those who crossed her path, and an encouraging mother figure to everyone whom she loved.
Merita is preceded in death by her parents, Luisa & Juan Chavez; her brother, Ruben Chavez; her sisters Mercedes Baeza & Rafaela Lopez; her daughter Velma Carrasco-Hill; her grandson Carlos Carrasco; her great-granddaughter Sadie; and her grandson Terry Joe.
Merita is survived by her husband, Carlos Carrasco. Her daughter Olga & spouse Ruben Matta, her daughter Wilma & spouse Rudy Hinojos, her son Johnny & spouse MaryAnn Carrasco, and her son Manuel & spouse Hollie Carrasco. Her grandchildren Kim & spouse Jesse Ramirez, Mark & spouse Amy Matta, Melissa & spouse John Zenger, Michelle & spouse Hughie Gray, Maj. Sarah Carrasco, Haley Carrasco & Jared Carrasco. She is also survived by her multiple, wonderful great-grandchildren.
Merita was a loving, strong, supportive and bold-"told you how it was" kind of woman. She will be deeply missed for her unique character and God loving personality that she instilled in anyone who was around her.
