Mary Marquez Estrada was born in Artesia, NM on September 3, 1952 to Luis and Cruz Marquez.
She attended Artesia High School and graduated in 1970.
She met Alec (Bobby) Pena Estrada as a young girl and they became high school sweethearts before marrying at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Artesia on December 19, 1974.
She worked at the City of Odessa as administrative assistant to Larry Long and Joel Roberts for 23 years where she was respected and well loved by her colleagues and friends. After retiring from the City, she and her husband moved to Port Arthur with MMR for a few years before moving back home to Odessa where Mary continued her tenure for the City at both the Police Department and the Department of Parks and Recreation. In addition to these duties, she served as interim city secretary for some time. She finally retired for good so that she could enjoy the job she most loved- taking care of her grandchildren as her family continued to grow.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Luis and Cruz Marquez and her 4th child Alec Estrada. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Alex (Bobby) Estrada; her children, Michelle Barrera and husband Elliott, Linda Estrada, Thomas TJ Estrada, Jessica Estrada and partner Bianca Castillo, Jeremy Estrada and wife Christina, Olga Estrada and partner Saul Gonzales, brothers Manuel Marquez, Fred Marquez of Albuquerque, NM, Elijio Marquez and David Marquez of Longview, TX, and sisters Delia Olguin of Artesia and Luisa Olivas of Odessa, Ofelia Marquez 18 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Sergio Benavides, Xavier Christian, Xian Christian, Pablo Sandoval, Anthony Sandoval, Carlos Gonzales, JD McDade, Ray Roman. Honorary pallbearers are Joaquin Estrada, Xiomar Estrada, Alex Sandoval, Esai Gonzales, and Elliott Mateo Barrera.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Garcia in the Critical Care Unit, neurologist Dr. Kadir, and the Hospice staff at Medical Center Hospital, as well as the countless doctors and nurses who have cared for Mary during her visits this year.
Visitation will take place at Martinez Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 1PM -9PM and recital of the most holy Rosary will be at 7PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church at 1PM with Father Angel Castro Gonzalez officiating. Internment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Thank you, Mom, for blessing us with your life and love. We will never forget the laughter we shared in the house you made a home. We miss you already and await our reunion in heaven and until then, we love you!
