Melvin (Big “M”) Gene Jones, 64, born in Sweetwater, TX passed away June 19, 2022, in Medical Center Hospital of Odessa, TX.
Melvin was born on September 24, 1957, to James & Bobbie Jean Jones. He moved to Odessa, Texas, where he attended and played football for Ector High School. On May 3rd, 1976, he married his forever love, Carol Jones, and soon became a family of six. Melvin worked in the Transportation Industry as a truck driver for many years. If you ever met Melvin “Big M” Jones, you would never forget his loud whistling, and friendly spirit. Big “M” had an uncanny way of making people feel welcomed. He had a huge heart and showed a tremendous amount of love for his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, raising dogs, cooking, social outings, watching movies, and telling funny stories. He was one of the best impersonators we’ve ever known. There really is no way to fully express how much he will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Jones of 46 years, children; Tracy Cox (Arlington, TX), Dwan Perkins-Jones and fiancé, Harold Jeffery (Odessa, TX), Christie Sneed and husband Curties Sneed (Arlington, TX), Octavia Jones-Mitchell (Odessa, TX), Tasha Griffin (Odessa, TX), and grandchildren; Deontrae Cox, D’Anthony Self-Jones, Ahmajanae Perkins, Aurie Sneed, Apryl Sneed, Trinity Cox, D’Moryha Mitchell, Desmond Green and great-grandchildren; Taliyah Self-Jones and D’Anthony Self-Jones II, siblings; twin brother, Milton Jones and sister, Michelle Jones, brothers-in-law; Eric Waddell Cox and Milton Lee and sister-in-law; Delma Lee, and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bobbie Jean Jones, siblings; (Jack) Robert B. Smith, Lanard Jones and Ella Mae Jones.
Funeral Services are scheduled Saturday, June 15th 11:00 a.m., at Texas and Clements Church of Christ with Rev. Devon DeShields officiating. The burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home.
