Paulethia Kerr Hunter was the second of three children born to the parentage of the late Henrietta Patrick Kerr and George W. Kerr. She graduated from Antioch High School in Lee County, Texas. After high school she left home to seek her fortune. She lived in several towns before settling down in Monahans, Texas where she fell in love and married Pink Newson. While he served three years in the Army during World War II, Paulethia wrote to PFC Newson daily. To this union was born one daughter, Bernice. While raising Bernice, she saw the needs of many community children and opened her home and heart to provide nurturing care, food, and counseling.
In 1942 under the Church of God in Christ leadership of Superintendent C. Parks, she became saved. The same year she served as the President of of the local
Sunshine Band Youth Group. She held that position for twelve years. She served as Local and District President of the Sunshine Band for nine years. She served as State President for the Sunshine Band for fortyfive years. During the International Conference of the Church of God in Christ held in Memphis, Tennessee, Paulethia was honored for sixty years of service. Paulethia held numerous positions in the church, such as YPWW President, Sunday School Superintendent and later Assistant Superintendent, treasurer, member of the Usher Board, and Deaconess. She is an anointed licensed Missionary. She was a member of the Prayer House C.O.G.I.C.
Paulehtia is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, three brothers, and youngest daughter Vicky. She is survived by her daughter Bernice Deaver, Odessa sisterHelen Kerr Fosha, Houston numerous nieces nephews and cousins.
