Rev: Mcneil

Rev. R.T. McNeil, 74, of Odessa, passed away on December 7, 2017 in Odessa.
Visitation will be held Saturday December 16, 2017 from 9am to 9:45 am with A Celebration of Life being held at 10:00 a.m., at St. James Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Samuel Buhl, Sr., pastor of the St. James Missionary Baptist Church will be officiating. Dr. R. Timothy McNeil, Sr., pastor of the Community Fellowship Church, Windsor, CT will be the eulogist. Burial will follow in Odessa II section of the Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home and Crematory.
Rev. McNeil was born in Ft. Worth, Texas to Rev. Richard Charles McNeil and Mrs. Veola (Waddle) McNeil. He graduated from Madison High School in Dallas. He also attended Stephen F. Austin University, Wiley College, Kilgore College, and Baylor University. He married Amye Jones McNeil on November 29, 1975. He was a minister of the gospel for over 50 years; he pastored several churches in East Texas before moving to Odessa in 1981 to Pastor the St. James Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from St. James Missionary Baptist Church in 2014.
He was involved in many capacities locally and nationally through church and civic activities, which included serving on the Medical Center Hospital Board and as City Councilman for the City of Odessa. He has received many honors and awards.
Rev. McNeil is preceded in death by his parents, one son, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and one grandson.
Rev. McNeil is survived by his wife Amye, they shared three children; Alicia (Don) Yancy, Dr. R. Timothy McNeil, Sr., and Amye Elisabeth McNeil; 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; one sister, and one brother. He is also survived by a host of nephews, nieces, and loving family and friends.
The family of Rev. McNeil wishes to extend sincere thanks to his doctors and medical providers and all family and friends for their kindness, prayers, thoughts and deeds during this time.
