Robert Lee Thomas, 64, of Odessa Texas passed away on October 14, 2016 at his home.
Wake will be Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Martinez Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday October 20, 2016 at Texas and Clements Church of Christ with Bro. Devon Deshields officiating and Bro. Matthew Nzere will give the eulogy. Burial will follow at Ector County Cemetery in Odessa II Garden. Arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home.
Robert Lee Thomas was born in Odessa Texas to William and Mozell Thomas on March 9, 1952. He attended Carver Elementary and Blackshear Junior High; he graduated in 1971 from Ector High School. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War as an airplane mechanic and attained the rank of sergeant. He diligently served as a firefighter here in Odessa for 25 years.
Robert Thomas loved his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, restoring old cars, and landscaping. He also loved and looked forward to his weekly Bible class with two of his brothers in Christ, Matthew Nzere and Luther Morris. It was always the highlight of his week to learn more about the Lord, and he was willing to share with others what he was studying - especially his wife.
On August 30, 1996 Robert married Darlene Warren Stricklin in Midland, Texas and immediately became the dad of 4 boys and 1 daughter whom he loved and supported as his own.
Robert is preceded in death by his father, William Travis Thomas, Sr. (1980) his brother, William (WT) Thomas (2007), his maternal grandparents, Louis and Vergie Stokes, paternal grandparents, Britt and Elizabeth (Big Mama) Thomas.
Robert Thomas leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Darlene Thomas; his mother, Mozell Thomas; his brother, Bobby Thomas, Sr. (LaToshia); his daughter, Taleesha Thomas(Olympia, WA - presently serving in the United states Air Force Reserves); his stepchildren, Freddie Stricklin, Warren Stricklin, Jamaal Stricklin, Laurance Stricklin, and Kiara Stricklin; 17 grandchildren; 3 nieces - Mellissa Thomas, Tiffani Thomas, Michelle Thomas; 3 nephews, Bobby Thomas, Jr., Travis Thomas, Sean Thomas; 6 great-nephews and 2 great nieces; host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers: Hubert Collins, Robert Williams, Edward Williams, Randall Williams, Billy Cleaver, Bobby Thomas, Jr.
