Ruben Lopez Herrera aka Conejo / Rabbit lost his battle with ALS and passed away Saturday, November 28, 2020 at home. He fought hard, but finally God saw how tired he was and so he opened his arms and took our precious husband, dad, grandfather and great grandfather with him.
Visitation will be held from 1pm to 9pm with a Holy Rosary Recited at 7pm Sunday December 6,2020 at Martinez Funeral Home
A Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10am Monday December 7, 2020 at St. Anthony`s Catholic Church, with Military Honors to be rendered at the conclusion.
At the family`s request, cremation has been opted as the alternative means of burial, for Mr. Ruben L.  “ Rabbit ” Herrera.
Ruben was born December 7, 1948 to Manuel and Natividad Herrera in Rotan, Texas . He married Lupe Alaniz in December 14, 1968 and together they raised two awesome children . Ruben Jaime Herrera ( RIP) and daddy’s girl Tina Michelle Herrera . They have six precious grandkids, Michael, Alexandra, Shelby, Ryan, Abigail, and Bo’Justin. They also have nine of the cutest great-grandbabies, Ace, J’Lynn, Emmeline, Jeter, Aliyah, Zaydrian, Aviana, Kaelani , and Liam. Each and everyone of them had a very special place in “Pops” heart. Ruben attended local schools in Odessa, he worked in construction . Ruben never met a stranger, everyone including kids , loved him . He loved the outdoors, he loved fishing and playing golf. Ruben also played Semi- Pro baseball as a pitcher . Ruben loved his beer , moonshine and especially his Jack Daniels . He loved to dance to Tejano, Country , and even hip-hop with his granddaughter Alex . He even took square dancing lessons at one time . Ruben was a big fan of baseball and always attended his grandsons games . Ruben was very well known for his “Hooty Hoo” . Ruben was a Proud Marine Veteran where he served in Vietnam. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Michael, Ryan, Bo’Justin , his very dear friends David Gonzalez, Tino Larrea, Cipriano Gonzalez and Lando Franco. Ruben is preceded in death by his son Ruben Jaime Herrera, his parents Manuel and Natividad Herrera, and two brothers Ben Herrera and George Herrera , also his brother in law Gregorio Alaniz and mother in law Agustina Alaniz . A special thank you to Visiting Angels caregivers , also Carol and Ashley with Triple C and a Special Thank you to StarCare Hospice nurses Rosie, Cindy and Becky. A huge thank you to Ruben’s sister in law Linda Alaniz who took a huge part in taking care of Ruben from beginning to end ..
