Sammie Draughan

October 21, 1935 — March 20, 2016

Sammie Draughan, 80 of Odessa, passed away on March 20, 2016 at Buena Vida Nursing Home in Odessa, Texas.
Visitation will be held at 10am to 9pm Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Services will be held at 2pm Friday, March 25, 2016 at the Church of Christ at Texas and Clements with Pastor Odel Crawford of the Church of Christ at Carver Heights, officiating. Burial will be held at 10am Monday, March 28, 2016 at Ector County Cemetery in Peaceful Garden. Arrangements are under the care of Martinez Funeral Home.
Sammie was born in Colorado City, Texas to Oscar Curtis Draughan and Alberta Bush Draughan. He attended schools in Colorado City, Texas.
He married Maxine Brown Draughan and to this union they had four children: Rodney, Janice, Phyllis and Joyce.
Sammie worked as a truck driver throughout his career for many years and this was his passion as well as meeting people anywhere and everywhere. He was a respected professional who was highly admired by his peers and coworkers. He wasn't a stranger to anyone he met and his selflessness and generosity was contagious to all. His greatest accomplishment was being a dedicated family man and relentless worker. He was outgoing, and his hobbies included fishing, gardening and cooking for his family and friends. He was a veteran of the Navy and Army Reserve.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Curtis Draughan and Alberta Bush Draughan. His daughters Phyllis Gilliam and Joyce Draughan, brothers, Willie Jones, O.C. Draughan, Jeffrey Draughan, Farris Draughan and John L. Draughan and sister, Lillie Draughan Duncan.
Sammie is survived by his loving wife Mattie Draughan, son, Rodney Draughan of Vancouver, Washington and daughter, Janice Draughan Olivas of Houston, TX, step-son, Carl Medlock (Marilyn) of Odessa, TX, step-daughters, Lois Jones of Dallas, TX, Carolyn Fears (Richard) and Brenda Garrison (Rodney) both of Odessa, TX, brothers, Dondee Draughan of Forrest Hills, TX, Frank Draughan and Robert Draughan (Denise) both of Odessa, TX, Sisters, Ruby Green of Denver, CO, Donnie Miles of Odessa, TX, Mary Nell McGaha and Doris Christian both of Hobbs, NM, Barbara Draughan of Midland, TX and Monica Draughan of Houston, TX; Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
Honorary Pallbearers will be his brothers.
Pallbearers will be Richard Fears, Larry Pegues, Jamel Guyton, Javorian Guyton, Charldric Martin and Rodney Garrison.
The family of Sammie Draughan's would like to thank you for your prayers, food, cards, kind words and those who visited with us during this difficult time.
Repast will follow services in the Texas and Clements Church of Christ dining hall.
