Silvestre Silvas

Silvestre "Sandy" P. Silvas, 56, passed away on May 25, 2017 in Odessa, Texas.

Memorial service will be held at 2pm June 2, 2017 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church 4141 Tanglewood Odessa, Texas with Rev. David Mossbarger Officiating. Burial of the cremains to follow at a later date.

Arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home.

Silvestre was born in Sanderson, Texas to Silvestre G. and Rita Pena Silvas. He attended Sanderson High School. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Social Work in 1983 and from the University of Houston with a Doctorate of Jurisprudence in 1986. He started working with youth ministry in 2010. In 2016, he moved to Odessa to teach English at Bonham Middle School.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Silvestre and Rita Silvas.

Silvestre is survived by his three sisters Rosa Olvera and husband David, Clelia Carrillo and husband Valente, and Emma Aguilar. Nieces and nephews, Dr. Adrian Olvera, Clarisa Escamilla, Erik Carrillo, and Michelle Galindo and several great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the University of Texas at Austin in his honor.
