Teresa Matta Natividad

Teresa "Veyve" Matta Natividad, 88 of Rotan, Tx passed away peacefully on June 21st, 2023 in Lubbock, Tx after a brief illness.

Teresa, or Grandma-Great as she was so affectionately known, was born March 28, 1935 to Evaristo and Teresa Vasquez Mata. She attended Pecos schools and became a wife, and mother to 7 children. She resided in Odessa for many years before moving to Rotan, to be closer to her eldest daughter.

Teresa had many roles in her life, including a notary public and tax preparer for the people in her community. She is also lovingly remembered as a catechist teacher at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Rotan. She was a dedicated Catholic and at Sunday Mass and on Catechism Wednesdays, you would find her standing proudly in the pew, enthusiastically singing along to the church music. She also enjoyed Mariachi and Tejano music and it brought her such joy to sing her favorite songs with some of her grandchildren in her last days.

She had a large part in raising one of her grandchildren full-time and would also take in an occasional grandchild when needed. As a result, many of her grandkids have funny, entertaining and interesting stories to tell of their time spent with her.

Teresa is preceded in death by her mother and father, her sisters, Celia Castillo and Delia Alvarez and her sons, Danny Natividad, Julian Galindo and Stevie Natividad.

She is survived by her sister, Delma (Prissy) Navarette, her brothers, Evaristo (Victoria) Matta Jr, Federico Matta, Domingo Matta, George (Corina) Matta and Joe Luis (Brenda) Vasquez. Her daughters, Virginia (Marcus) Gonzalez of Rotan, Criselda (Tony) Dominguez of Baytown and Mary Ann Gonzales of Odessa. Her son, Benito (Doreen) Natividad, Jr of Odessa. 22 grandchildren and many great, and great-great, grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
