Tommy James “TJ” Jones, 80, of Odessa, Tx passed away on December 25, 2023, in Odessa, Tx.
Visitation will be Thursday January 4, 2024, from 4:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 5, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Bishop G. T. Garnett II officiating. The Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home.
Tommy was born in Gilmer, Texas to the parents of Rev. T.C. and Ruth Jones on July 31, 1943. He attended Bethune School in Crane, Texas and Navarro Junior College in Tyler, Texas where he received his Barber License. He married Alvern Soders on October 10, 1963, in Corsicana, Texas. They moved back to Crane right after College and later to Odessa, Tx in 1967. He worked for the U. S. Postal Service for 40 years. He was a Mason, Licensed Barber, Certified Auto Mechanic, Locksmith, Notary, A.K.A. Jack of all Trades where he mastered it all. He loved buying cars, working on cars, collecting cars, fishing, rescuing dogs, and loving on his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and if you didn’t know him, you have probably seen him at a store, or truck stop buying and scratching those LOTTO TICKETS. He was an avid lotto player and winner.
Tommy is proceeded in death by his parents Rev. T. C. Jones and Ruth Jones, wife Alvern Jones, Baby Jones, brother Tommy Chester Jones, and sister Ruby Helen Smith.
Tommy is survived by his daughters Deborah McDavid (Raymond), Cheryl Torres (Adrian), Sherita LeShaw (Stacey), Tometra Mitchell (Eddie), sons Tommy James Jones Jr. (Danielle), and Travorak Jones (Moleshia). Sister Betty Derrick (Earnest), 17 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
