Valvina Matta

Valvina Vasquez Matta of Balmorhea, Tx, beloved Mother and Grandmother was called to her eternal resting place on December 2, 2020 in Odessa, TX at the age of 90. Valvina was born on March 30, 1930 in Balmorhea, Tx to Pedro and Rafaela Vasquez. Valvina worked as a cotton picker until she met the love of her life Alberto Matta, they married shortly after and were married for 61 years. Valvina was a devoted housewife, she loved to bake “diet” cookies for all those who were on a diet. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was nicknamed “Giggles” at the nursing home she resided. Valvina had a great green thumb and loved to garden, her favorite thing to plant was colorful roses. She always had a beautiful garden and fruit trees that covered her entire yard. She enjoyed making preserves with the fruits from her trees. Valvina loved being surrounded by her family and loved having a full house as often as possible. Valvina is preceded in death by her parents Pedro and Rafaela Vasquez, husband Alberto Matta, son Alberto (Tito) Matta Jr., 6 brothers and 1 sister. Valvina is survived by her children Alex and wife Olga Matta, Ruben and wife Olga Matta, Longina (Kina) Contreras, Bertha and late husband Juan Casias, Delia and husband Martin Muñiz, Denise Soto and siblings Victoria and husband Herminio Ramirez, Francisco (Kiko) and wife Alifonsa Vasquez, Pedro and wife Socorro Vasquez, 19 Grandkids, 37 Great Grandkids and 3 Great Great Grandkids. Visitations will be held Friday December 4, 2020 at 10am and Rosary will follow Friday at 7pm at Martinez Funeral Home. Mass services will be held Saturday December 5, 2020 at 10am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be held at 2pm in Balmorhea, Tx. Pallbearers will be Jason Casias, Mike Contreras Jr, Jake Contreras, Jeffery Matta, Mark Matta, Marc Anthony Casias
