Yolanda C. Hernandez

Yolanda C. Hernandez, 70, of Odessa, TX passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.

Yolanda was born in Odessa, TX to Emeterio and Lasara Cortez on December 29, 1950. She went to school in Odessa and graduated from Ector High School in 1970. She married Ismael (Bobby) Hernandez on June 21, 1971. Throughout her life, she worked as a legal secretary for Warren Burnett, Ruff Anders and Barry Hart. Years later, she was a bus driver and bus aide for ECISD. In 2002, she retired to be a full time “Pama”.

Yolanda is preceded in death by her parents, Emeterio and Lasara Cortez, brothers Mike Cortez, Evaristo Cortez, Juan Cortez, Jimmy Cortez and Locadio Cortez. And her sisters Paula Marquez, Ricarda Soltero, Maria Galvan, and Angela Alvarado.

She is survived by her husband Ismael (Bobby) Hernandez, daughters Melissa (Missy) Contreras and husband Pedro, Sonya Marie Hernandez, Amanda Dominguez and husband Ric, and son Anthony Hernandez and wife Jensine. And her bonus daughter and grandson, Lenis and Zion Vasquez. Grandchildren Adrian Hernandez, Aaron Contreras, Israel Garcia, A’sia Garcia, Aeric Contreras, Luis Olivas, Jordan Balcazar, Gabriel Guerrero, Isaac Balcazar, Aidree Balcazar, and Jace Hernandez. Great-Grandchildren Jaelynn Hernandez, Zoe Garcia, Sadie Garcia, Emrie Solis, Noah Contreras, Dominic Garcia, and Evanie Solis. Last but certainly not least her fur grandson/companion Bogey.

Yoli loved her family fiercely.  She enjoyed watching the Hallmark Channel Christmas movies all year and rooting for the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees. Her best times were spent supporting her grandchildren in their various activities and spending time with them. Marching season and cheering on the OHS Broncho Band was one of her favorite things to do. She will be deeply missed by each one of us.

Pallbearers will be Adrian Hernandez, Aaron Contreras, Aeric Contreras, Israel Garcia, Gabriel Guerrero, Luis Olivas, Jordan Balcazar, and Isaac Balcazar. Honorary Pallbearers are Anthony Hernandez, Jace Hernandez, Noah Contreras, David Marquez, Dominic Garcia, Ric Dominguez, Zion Vasquez, Manuel Hernandez, Oscar Hernandez and Roy Hernandez.

The family of Yolanda C. Hernandez would like to thank: Dr. Fernando Boccalandro, Dr. Tejas P. Patel, Bianca Hinojos with the HF Clinic, and Debbie Merry of Kindred Care. The exceptional medical care and compassion shown to our mom will never be forgotten. God bless you all.
